Letta describes itself as a platform for stateful agents with memory that can learn and self improve over time. The agent surface includes persistent memory, identity, skills, tools, subagents and schedules.
Letta agents use MemFS, described in the documentation as “a git-backed memory filesystem that they can inspect and edit”. The memory itself “is part of the agent’s state, held in a git repository that belongs to the agent”.

Supported hosted providers include Anthropic (Claude Opus 4.6, Claude Opus 4.5, Claude Sonnet 4.5, Claude Haiku 4.5), OpenAI (GPT 5.2, GPT 5.2 Codex) and Google (Gemini 3 Pro, Gemini 3 Flash).
Local inference providers are supported for local agents: Ollama, LM Studio and llama.cpp. The documentation states that direct integrations with local inference providers such as LM Studio, Ollama and llama.cpp are available for local agents, and that to keep inference local you connect one of them.

GPT 5’s $43.56 against Claude Sonnet 4.5’s $24.58 is 1.77 times the cost for 1.33 points less, which is what the narration means by “almost twice the benchmark cost”. Kimi K2 at $12.08 for 55.13% is the best cost per point of the open weight entries.

The term is Letta’s own. From “Memory Models: Towards Agents That Learn”, published 25 June 2026: “This can lead to memory rot over time for long-lived agents, and limit the extent to which agents can learn independently from available context or past experience.” The same piece identifies overgeneralization and memory rot as failure modes of existing memory-creation approaches. That is the shape the narration describes: a seven or eight billion parameter model clears eight gigabytes but leaves little for context, twelve to fourteen billion is comfortable at sixteen, and a thirty billion parameter coding model needs a twenty four gigabyte card before context is affordable.
