$20 of AI a Month. One of These Two Is Wasting It.

Every figure and claim this video puts on screen, chased to a primary source. Checked 2026-08-01. Both products change their plans and their limits often, so each entry carries the date it was checked and anything that was still moving at the time.

The price

Claude Pro is $20 a month. “The Pro plan is available for $20 per month (US), with pricing in your local currency where supported.” The published pricing page also lists $17 per month on an annual subscription, billed $200 up front.

ChatGPT Plus is $20 a month. Listed on the published plan comparison.

$40 a month and $480 a year for both together is arithmetic on those two list prices: $20 + $20 = $40, and $40 x 12 = $480.

The context window

Claude gives 200,000 tokens on every consumer plan. The plan comparison lists a 200k context window against Free, Pro, Max 5x and Max 20x alike. Worth being precise about: this is not something Pro buys over Free, it is the size Claude works at.

ChatGPT Plus is 32,000 tokens on the default model. The per plan context window for the instant model on Plus and Business is 32K.

Reasoning mode on Plus is 256,000 tokens, split 128k in and 128k out, and only when the reasoning model is selected by hand rather than left to the router. An earlier figure of 196k circulated widely and has been superseded.

Six times the room is derived: 200,000 / 32,000 = 6.25, shown rounded down to 6x.

One 4,000 line file is about 50,000 tokens is derived, not measured. The published rule of thumb is roughly 4 characters per token for English text; a source line of about 45 characters is therefore around 11 to 12 tokens, and 4,000 lines lands near 48,000. This is an order of magnitude illustration and is stated on screen as “about”.

The limits

Claude Pro runs on a rolling five hour session with a weekly limit over the top. Sessions reset every five hours, and there is “a weekly usage limit that applies across all models”.

Neither company publishes a fixed message count. Anthropic states that how much a session holds depends on message length, attached files, the model and the feature in use. Any specific number of prompts per window is an estimate rather than a published figure, which is why none appears on screen.

Claude Code is included with Pro and draws on the same pool as chat. Usage in the IDE and the terminal counts toward the same limits shared across Claude and Claude Code.

ChatGPT Plus meters several things separately, with its own allowance per model and per feature rather than one shared budget.

Hitting the cap on Plus swaps the model rather than stopping. Once the message cap is reached, conversations continue on the mini model until the window resets. That is the difference the video draws: one plan blocks and says so, the other keeps answering on a smaller model.

Anthropic doubled the five hour Claude Code limits on 6 May 2026 and removed the peak hours reduction, so any comparison of how far a window stretches is a comparison of that date onward.

The coding agents

Claude Code ships with Claude Pro and runs in the terminal and in supported IDEs including VS Code, Cursor and the JetBrains IDEs.

Codex is included with ChatGPT plans and runs in the terminal, in IDE extensions, in a desktop app and in the cloud. Cloud tasks run in a sandbox preloaded with the repository and can propose a pull request for review. Rate limits are higher on the paid plans.

The exclusives

Image generation: ChatGPT only. Claude has no image generation on any consumer plan.

Video generation: ChatGPT only, through Sora. Claude has no video generation.

Custom GPTs: ChatGPT only. A library of assistants built and published by other people, with no equivalent on Claude.

Apps built and run inside the conversation: Claude only. Claude renders and runs interactive artifacts inside the chat itself.

Connectors are on both, and this is the one most comparisons get wrong. ChatGPT connects to a large catalogue of third party apps including Slack, Google Drive, SharePoint, GitHub and Atlassian. Claude connects to Google Workspace, Slack and remote MCP connectors, and supports custom ones. The difference is breadth, not presence, which is why the video says both do it.

Voice is on both. Claude’s voice mode is included for Pro at no extra cost, is available in the mobile apps, and was extended in 2026 to more languages, push to talk, and to the Opus and Sonnet models. It is not a ChatGPT exclusive and is not presented as one.
